Stop putting yourself in awkward situations.
A pessimistic opener to a happiness blog, right? Well, I am (or rather used to be) what you may call a self-confessed people pleaser. I would find myself in places or situations that actually I just didn’t want to be in. Either because I thought it was the right thing to do or that I should, or because I felt guilty if I said no.
So, there I would be.
Until one day, I started saying ‘no’. Now, this wasn’t an overnight revelation and, at first, it was hard. Especially because people that want you there with them will always try to convince you to tag along (let’s be honest, they wouldn’t be your friends otherwise). It’s great to try new experiences and visit new places, but sometimes there are things that just won’t be for you. And, if you know that and if you really just don’t want to do it – just say no and arrange another additional activity that is more up your street.
It’s not about being stubborn or difficult, it’s about looking after yourself and not putting yourself in a situation that you’re not comfortable with.
